  • How can chemical peels benefit the skin?
Chemical peels improve skin texture and firmness, decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. Peels also even out skin tone, improve acne-prone skin and reduce pore size appearance.
  • How long do results last?
Results vary from person to person. With sun protection and a good skincare regime, results can last months, even years.
  • Is there any downtime?
It depends on the strength of the peel. Immediately after treatment the skin may be red and tight and peeling can last anywhere from 3-5 days. Be sure to be using a gentle cleanser, toner and sunscreen following a peel and avoid strenuous activity for 2-3 days prior. It is important to stay out of the sun while peeling to avoid hyperpigmentation and picking/peeling the skin is prohibited as it can lead to scarring. Topical prescriptions can be continued 3-5 days after your peel.
  • What is a chemical peel?
Chemical peels cause intentional damage to the epidermis and/or dermis with the goal of stimulating new tissue to improve skin texture and tone. Chemical peels have been used dating back to Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra used sour milk to improve the appearance of her skin, according to some sources. Lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid) is the active ingredient in sour milk.
  • How are chemical peels classified?
Chemical peels are classified as superficial, medium or deep, depending on the depth of penetration of the ingredients used. Superficial peels exfoliate to various levels of the epidermis. Medium-depth peels treat through the papillary dermis and deep peels to the mid-reticular dermis. The strength of a chemical peel is determined by the type of ingredients used, their concentrations and the pH of the formulation.
  • What should I expect during treatment?
Procedures may vary depending on the type of peel. When the chemical solution is applied to the face, sensations include a mild stinging or tingling which is temporary and lasts 3-5 minutes until the peel neutralizes.
  • How often should teens have facials?
For teens struggling with severe acne, a facial every other week or at least once a month may be appropriate. Teens who have some flare-ups can maintain clear, healthy skin with facials three or four times a year to start off their skin care regime.

  • How many facials will I need before I see improvement?
Regardless of the type of facial you do or the product line being used, a facial will only cleanse, hydrate, purify, and promote clear skin. Regular facials promote the health of your skin and will lessen breakouts, congestion and other concerns from worsening. A facial is a healthy procedure for the skin but will not “cure” a skin concern. If you have one of the conditions mentioned above you need advanced treatments found in “MediSpa Facials".

  • How is dermaplaning different from a chemical peel?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment and you will not peel or visibly shed skin after your service, while Chemical Peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following a service. Dermaplaning provides a good alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.
  • What should I expect during my service?
Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation. Dermaplaning is followed by restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to close a shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.
  • How often should I get treatment?
Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.
  • What should I expect after my service?
You will immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a Dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
  • Will my hair grow back darker and thicker?
No, Dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. Hair will continue to grow as previously.
  • Who can have dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout, anyone using topical Retinol or Accutance and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.
  • How should I care for my skin after dermaplaning?
After a Dermaplaning treatment your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day. For best results, use skincare routine recommended by your technician/specialist.
  • Am I a good candidate for this treatment?
The best candidate for Venus Versa™ photofacial treatments is someone with uneven complexion and skin texture concerns, including discolorations, sun spots, café-au-lait spots, port wine stains, rosacea, and visible veins on their skin. However, it should be noted that for safety reasons, an individual may not be an ideal candidate if they have any of the following: Metal or other implants in the treatment area A current diagnosis or history of cancer Are pregnant or nursing A disease or condition that can be stimulated by light, such as epilepsy A history of a disease or condition that can be stimulated by heat, such as herpes Poorly-controlled endocrine disorders, such as diabetes or polycystic ovary syndrome Any active skin condition in the treatment area, such eczema, psoriasis, or a rash A history of skin disorders, keloids, unusual wound healing, or excessively dry and/or sensitive skin Any surgical procedures within the past three months A tattoo or permanent makeup in the treatment area Excessively tanned skin
  • Is there any specific pre or post care instructions?
Ensure the treatment area is clean prior to each appointment. Do not apply lotions, creams, powders, or makeup before each treatment session, and stop using any products that might irritate skin two to three days prior to treatment. Avoid tanning, including with self-tanners, two weeks before and two weeks after treatment, and use sunscreen and sun protection (like layers and hats) whenever going outdoors—even in cloudy weather. If possible, patients should have their complete medical history available in case it is required by the treatment provider. Following treatments, skin may feel warm, like a sunburn, and may remain red for up to 24 hours. Makeup may be applied to neutralize redness immediately following treatment, though it is recommended to apply sunscreen first. Hot baths, massages, or other activities requiring direct skin contact should be avoided for the first two days post-treatment. Be sure to follow instructions for before and after each treatment as outlined by the treatment provider.
  • How long does treatment take?
Each session typically takes just 15–20 minutes, making it easy to fit into a busy schedule or a short lunch break. You may apply makeup and go about your regular activities immediately following treatment. For best results, book each appointment with some space between any treatments or activities that require direct contact with skin in the treatment area for 48 hours following each treatment.
  • Is this treatment safe for dark skin tones?
While treatments are often most effective for light to medium skin tones, Venus Versa™ treatments are safe for darker skin tones. However, to determine if an individual may be at risk of discoloration, it’s best to consult directly with a certified treatment technician.
  • How many treatments does it take to see results?
Most patients receive 4-5 treatments per area, each spaced three weeks apart. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated. A certified treatment provider will be able to outline the best treatment plan based on each patient’s individual needs. How long results are maintained also varies from patient to patient and is dependent on how the skin reacts to the treatment and the level of skin care post-procedure. For example, results will last longer if skin is protected from the sun daily. In most cases, one touch-up session is recommended approximately every three to six months, depending on the skin’s response to the treatment.
  • Why are multiple treatments needed?
Our hair naturally grows in 3 different stages. All our hair is not in the same stage at the same time, so when an area is treated only a percentage of hair follicles will be affected. Therefore, to effectively reduce your unwanted hair, multiple treatments are necessary.
  • How many treatments are needed?
A series of 3-6 treatments is recommended for optimal results but, every patient is different. Work with your provider to develop a plan that is right for you!
  • Is Laser Hair Removal right for me?

  • How long are treatments?
Treatments can take from just 5-60 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated.
